Woodruff Gundogs is a small licensed kennel of working labradors and working cocker spaniels owned and run by me, Julie Elborough, with a huge passion for training and working my dogs, country sports and my rural lifestyle.
I owned my first labrador in 1993, along with my then-gamekeeper partner. Days were spent assisting him on our private shoot, training and working Bumble. It wasn’t long before I became hooked on the training and competitive side of gundog work, and our kennel more than doubled in a very short time & I spent many successful years running my dogs in Working Tests and Field Trials, along with working them on local shoots.
In 2010 Woodruff became my full-time business, gaining a Five-star license rating as a boarding and breeding working dog kennel. I run regular training classes and events, breed a litter of labradors and cockers each summer, provide a stud service with my two Labradors, take care of orphan lambs each spring & maintain the bird training pen.
From September to February, I live between West Sussex and Northumberland, working my dogs on various shooting estates.
Woodruff is not just my work. It is my passion and life.
From Spring to Autumn, I run a full calendar of events at our picturesque lakeside venue near Wisborough Green West Sussex. We offer a varied diary of educational workshops, seminars and training days. Woodruff events are always a popular date in our clients diaries and we welcome new faces, Whether it be gundog training or game cookery you may be interested.
I am very fortunate to have four fabulous venues with a mix of woodland , fields, lakes and rivers in West Sussex and Surrey where I run regular small group training from the “Start Early Start Young “ puppy foundation courses to advanced Gundog Level. Throughout each summer there is a full diary of themed special training days and Guest Trainer days . We also run The Kennel Club Working Gundog Certificate early spring and late summer . Woodruff welcomes people who are new to the world of gundog work and field sports.
All my dogs are fully health tested , Labradors Hip/ elbow , clear eye certificates Pra, Cnm, Sd2, Eic, Hnpk & Stgd clear, Cockers Clear eye certificates , gonioscopy, Hip/elbows, gonioscopy, ams, Eic, Fn clear. I have 3 stunning stud dogs labradors : Drum & Trevor and cockers: Medlar.
